The Crystal Palace is an experimental film. The film is greatly influenced by early German experimental films and Maya Deren’s works. The film is based on a British fairy tale about unhappy children was sent to a palace made of crystal. To relieve their stress, they broke everything visible, and eventually their anger disappeared. The film wishes to depict the primitive desire of destruction within mankind. In the end, the children felt disappointed by the breaking of goods. The film featured a series of montage when the final glass piece was broken, and they felt extreme joy followed by extreme emptiness. This marks that we are not born to destroy, but to create. The film ends when the children left “crystal palace”, symbolizing the end of their ignorant, violent youth.
