My body of work is inspired from my childhood experiences. As I grew up with my grandparents in rural China, my childhood experience was shaped by Chinese folk tales and toys made by my grandparents. My work is composed into three parts. The first is about Chinese folk tales. I have selected three memorable folk tales, and I have created paintings to show how these stories have resonated with me. The second part explores the medium of sculpture. I have produced three sculptures based on toys my grandfather made for me. They were originally designed by my grandfather and are very close to my heart. I have re-made them into a primitive style – they are crude and rough, but they capture the simplicity my childhood. The last part of my exhibition consists of photography. These photos represent my childhood memories and my experiences.
