Fantasy, mythology and fairytales accompany us throughout our childhood. Yet, when we grow up, we find that reality was quite different from those stories. There are never “happily ever after”, there is no knight to save you from danger, and the wicked are never punished. Instead, we are facing problems like pollution and gender inequality. For my exhibition, I will create artwork exploring this theme by re-appriopriating existing stories, fairy tales and mythology, by injecting new understandings and meanings. I will borrow elements from Grimm’s fairy tales, medieval tales, Celtic and Norse mythology, and Cthulhu mythos, to create artworks that reflect problems in today’s society. To explore these ideas, I will use several medium, including painting, drawing, illustration, sculpture, and the art form of the graphic novel.
